Group Project (Kassia Kang, Xiaoxu Han, Selina Guo, Yutong Cai)

Inspired by vintage Barbie commercials, this project features four male characters who humorously exaggerate their personas like toy figures in a commercial. Each character presents himself with exaggerated confidence, demonstrating behaviors commonly seen in contemporary dating culture. Through short scripted lines and performative gestures, they advertise their personalities as if they were products being sold.
The characters were created using 3D scans of real participants, allowing their physical presence and expressions to become part of the narrative. The scans were processed and rendered using Jawset, which helped translate the scanned models into stylized digital characters for the final video.

Sketch

To create the characters, we recorded a short 1–2 minute video of each participant using a smartphone camera. The model stood in the center under three studio lights while holding a pose, and we slowly circled around them to capture a full 360-degree scan, moving from the top of the head to the face, torso, and lower body while keeping the camera focus locked. The footage was then imported into Jawset, where the software generated a Gaussian splat model through its reconstruction process. After the splats were generated, we cleaned the scan by removing unnecessary areas and isolating only the character model for use in the final project.
