The Tell-Tale Heart
First Image

Personal Project

Inspired by The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, I created a sound sculpture. It is designed as a white fake wall with a narrow slit in the middle, illuminated by a red LED light strip that subtly invites the audience to come closer.

The sculpture uses a time-of-flight distance sensor connected to an I2S DAC and speaker via an audio jack. The sound file, submitted in WAV format, is played on loop using an SD card reader. As the audience approaches the sensor, the sound gradually becomes louder, and as they move away, it fades. I included libraries for each component to control the mounted elements, using functions such as AudioOutI2S.volume()and AudioOutI2S.play(). To synchronize the distance range with the sound volume, I used constrain() and map()functions in the final code.
